Trust is not built in one moment.
It is built in many. And often, in ways that are easy to overlook.
A Simple Habit I Created
Years ago, during my beauty and image consulting business, I developed a simple habit.
After each purchase, I would send a handwritten thank-you card.
It wasn’t automated. It wasn’t templated. Just a few sincere words to let my customers know they mattered.
Over time, I began keeping track of meaningful dates—anniversaries, milestones—and I would send a card.
The responses were what stayed with me. Often, I would hear, “You’re the only one who remembers.” That’s when I understood something I’ve carried into every season of business since:
Trust isn’t built through big gestures. It’s built through small, thoughtful ones—repeated over time.
Why This Matters More Online Today
Today, we may not send as many handwritten cards as we used to do. But the opportunity to build trust hasn’t changed. The environment has changed—but human nature hasn’t.
Online, many believe trust is built through: More content, more visibility, and more activity. But trust is not built by volume. It is built by how you show up over time.

3 Ways Trust Is Built in the Online Space
-
Consistency Builds Familiarity: When people see you regularly, they begin to recognize you. And recognition is the first step toward trust.
This does not mean posting constantly. It means showing up in a way that is steady and reliable. Sometimes it simply means commenting on someone else’s post and offering genuine support. -
Clarity Builds Confidence: If your message is unclear, trust weakens.
When people have to figure out what you mean, they hesitate. But when your message is simple, direct, and aligned… They feel safe leaning in. -
Emotional Consistency Builds Connection: People are not just paying attention to what you say. They are paying attention to how you make them feel.
Over time, they begin to notice: Are you steady? Are you grounded? Are you clear in your presence?
Trust grows when your presence feels consistent—not unpredictable.
Build Trust Online: The Pattern People Remember
Here is where many miss valuable opportunities.
Trust is not built in a single post. It is built in the pattern of your presence.
Someone may follow you quietly for weeks… even months. They may never like or comment. But they are observing. And what they experience over time determines whether they trust you.
This was my experience on one social platform. Someone messaged me that she had been reading my posts for months and she was encouraged by them and looked forward to reading them. She eventually became a client—and worked with me for nearly two years.
She had never liked or commented. But she had been there the entire time.
A Simple Reflection
If someone has been observing your content for the past 30 days…
would they feel clear about what you stand for, confident in your voice, and connected to how you show up? Or would they still be trying to figure you out?
Establish Trust – Step #5 in the CONNECT Framework
Within my CONNECT Framework, this is Step #5: Establish Trust—not as a one-time effort, but as a consistent way of showing up.
Through presence rather than pressure.

A Final Thought
You don’t need more content to build trust. You need more intention behind what you create. In the end… People don’t trust you because you showed up once. They trust you because you showed up consistently, clearly, and with care.
What’s one small, consistent way you’re building trust in your business right now?
